About Us

Mundane is a venture-backed, seed-stage robotics and embodied AI company founded by Stanford researchers and builders. We are deploying large fleets of humanoid robots into real-world commercial environments to perform high-volume, repetitive tasks.

Our work spans the full hardware and software stack: electromechanical systems, actuation, embedded firmware, real-time controls, perception, autonomy, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale robot learning. By tightly integrating hardware development with data collection and learning systems, we are building the foundation for scalable embodied intelligence in the physical world.

We are a fast-moving, execution-focused team operating at the intersection of advanced robotics engineering and frontier AI.

About the Role

As a Senior Robotics Calibration & Motor QC Engineer, you will own the validation, calibration, and parameter identification pipeline for robotic arm actuators.

This role sits at the intersection of hardware, controls, and software — ensuring every motor and robot joint is precisely calibrated, characterized, and production-ready. You will build automated test systems, perform high-precision calibration (mastering), and extract accurate kinematic and dynamic parameters that directly impact robot performance.

This is a hands-on, systems-level role critical to scaling from prototype to production — where calibration quality defines system accuracy, reliability, and fleet consistency.

Responsibilities

Design and execute test procedures for robotic actuators, including Kt, cogging torque, encoder integrity, friction, and inertia. Build and operate actuator test benches using torque sensors, dynamometers, and DAQ systems, and define clear pass/fail criteria to ensure consistency across production batches.

Perform precise joint zeroing to align mechanical, encoder, and model reference frames. Develop repeatable calibration procedures using fixtures, reference marks, and metrology tools, and support field and service calibration after maintenance or component replacement.

Run kinematic calibration to correct joint offsets, link parameters, and alignment errors using external measurement systems such as laser trackers and precision fixtures. Improve absolute positioning accuracy and enable robust gravity compensation.

Develop automated calibration and test pipelines using Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW. Integrate control systems, DAQ pipelines, and structured data logging, and implement real-time analysis and automated reporting for pass/fail and parameter extraction.

Extract and validate actuator and system parameters such as Kt, friction, inertia, encoder offsets, and kinematics, and translate results into controller-ready configurations. Maintain scalable, repeatable calibration pipelines across units and production runs.

Build automated end-of-line testing workflows, analyze QC data trends to detect drift or supplier issues, and collaborate closely with manufacturing and suppliers to improve system quality and consistency.
