About Us

Mundane is a seed-stage robot learning startup founded by Stanford roboticists and builders. We’re deploying a fleet of humanoid robots to perform real-world tasks in commercial environments, collecting the data required to train the next generation of embodied intelligence.

We move fast, prototype aggressively, test in the real world, and iterate based on reality—not simulations. You can read more at https://mundane.bot.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Network Security & Connectivity Engineer to own the architecture that enables our robots and edge systems to communicate securely and reliably across local networks, the public internet, and cellular environments.

This is a highly hands-on, execution-focused role. You’ll design and implement the connectivity, security, and control foundations that make deployed systems discoverable, reachable, manageable, and resilient in real-world conditions. You’ll work across networking, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems to support production-grade robot deployments in the field.

You should be equally comfortable designing peer-to-peer networking systems, securing distributed infrastructure, and debugging connectivity issues across real-world deployments.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement secure connectivity architecture for robots and edge systems across LAN, WAN, and cellular networks
  • Build systems that make deployed robots securely discoverable, reachable, and manageable over the public internet
  • Develop peer-to-peer connectivity strategies, including NAT traversal, relay and fallback mechanisms, and secure session establishment
  • Architect and maintain control-plane services for device identity, authentication, authorization, key management, and routing policy
  • Design and enforce end-to-end network security across robot-to-robot, robot-to-cloud, and operator-to-robot communications
  • Deploy and harden internet-facing infrastructure, including DNS, gateways, relays, tunnels, and secure access layers
  • Support networking and deployment across physical environments, including subnet design, LAN setup, and field system integration
  • Ensure reliable connectivity over cellular networks, including SIM-based configurations and carrier constraints
  • Build and manage supporting cloud infrastructure across AWS, Google Cloud, and platforms such as Cloudflare
  • Lead threat modeling, system hardening, monitoring, and incident response for distributed edge and P2P systems
  • Develop observability, diagnostics, and debugging workflows for connectivity issues across robots, cloud services, and field deployments
  • Partner with robotics, systems, and operations teams to diagnose failures and improve reliability, uptime, and security

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in network engineering, cybersecurity, distributed systems, infrastructure engineering, or related fields
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, NAT, firewalls, DNS, TLS, VPNs, and modern networking fundamentals
  • Experience building or securing distributed systems and peer-to-peer communication architectures
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Google Cloud in production environments
  • Deep familiarity with network security architecture, authentication systems, encryption, and secure access design
  • Experience with LAN setup, subnetting, network segmentation, and physical network or system deployment
  • Experience supporting deployments across cellular or carrier-based network environments
  • Proficiency in Go, Rust, or C++
  • Strong systems-level debugging skills across networking, infrastructure, and deployed edge systems
  • Demonstrated ability to design secure, production-grade connectivity systems for real-world environments

Bonus Experience

  • AWS or Google Cloud certifications
  • Experience with Cloudflare, Zero Trust architectures, secure edge networking, or internet-facing infrastructure
  • Background in robotics, IoT, connected hardware, or distributed edge systems
  • Experience with secure device identity, PKI, certificate management, and provisioning workflows
  • Familiarity with technologies such as QUIC, WebRTC, DTLS, WireGuard, mTLS, or STUN/TURN/ICE
  • Experience securing small-scale, high-reliability, or mission-critical distributed systems

What You’ll Get

  • Ownership over core connectivity and security infrastructure powering real-world robot deployments
  • Direct impact on reliability, uptime, and security of deployed robotic systems
  • Tight collaboration with a small, high-caliber, multidisciplinary team
  • Fast iteration cycles with real-world deployment feedback
  • Competitive compensation, equity, and strong technical ownership

Perks

Competitive salary + equity, flexible PTO, coffee, robots, sauna & cold plunge (pending)
